In Fall of 2008, we created a site called Edgewood, New Mexico and The Surrounding Area, a follow-on after the Edgewood Chamber of Commerce decided to abandon the site, register a new domain, and commission a new site. The site has been successful, has great search engine ranking, and provides access to reasonably priced web advertisement resources. It was not until March 1, 2009, when we found that the Moriarty Chamber of Commerce web site had gone missing - again - that we realized that Moriarty's business community could use the same sort of resource. (On March 2, the first pieces of a "new" Moriarty Chamber site came up. Most of the links at that time pointed to pages that declared "New Site Coming Soon" - but not one pointed to a forthcoming business listing or a member directory. Nothing had changed as of March 24, 2009.)
There's plenty of room for debate on what the local Chambers should be doing, but one thing is for certain - they are not providing access to reasonably priced web advertising for local businesses, which is something those businesses sorely need. Here at Moriarty, New Mexico and The Surrounding Area (as with the Edgewood site), local businesses can purchase links to their existing sites, full-page ads, or even mini-sites under the moriartynmchamber.com domain for a fraction of the cost of a full-priced custom web site with a local/regional emphasis.
